Little Hercules Foundation is a non-profit bent on improving the lives of kids diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). A genetic disorder, DMD is characterized by progressive muscular degeneration and weakness.
It makes sense that the foundation cruises their kid clients around in a custom-built, handicap-accessible van. But the foundation wanted a fun design for the body that would also align with existing brand elements. Little Hercules Foundation approached AGI to help make the project a success.
The foundation had a simple set of brand guidelines with two main colors and a mascot that appeared throughout their digital assets. They also had several infographics explaining the genetic mutation and its impact on individuals with DMD.
I developed three concepts for the design, and our team’s senior designer developed two. Little Hercules selected my third concept for the vehicle.
Concept1 incorporates a fun, whimsical pattern showing the Little Hercules mascot. I placed contact and social media on the vehicle’s rear so it would stand out from the design.
Concept 2 uses the image of a child underLittle Hercules’ care. The bright blue body helps the vehicle stand out among other cars and at events. I placed a large URL for Little Hercules on the side of the van, encouraging curious viewers to learn more.
Concept 3 uses a split-tone design to incorporate the two primary colors in Little Hercules’ branding. I used the dystrophin gene associated with DMD as the background pattern.
Little Hercules approved the final design of Concept 3 after a few minor revisions. Their handicap-accessible van now features a fun, kid-approved design in bright blue and charcoal.
