Project
Background

In 1997, Adam Wright and Roger McPeek founded Associated Graphics, Inc. with the vision of revolutionizing the automotive graphics industry. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, we designed a company timeline showing the history of AGI and its vision for the future. As design lead, I worked closely with the senior designer to design, produce, and install the timeline on AGI’s front entryway wall.

Process

To begin, we used AGI’s original vinyl plotter as the design’s stand-alone centerpiece.

Beyond that, our goal was to use as much wall space as possible while keeping the text readable at eye level. We also knew that AGI wanted to keep the design modular so they could swap out dates and images whenever they wanted.

With those constraints, I chose a series of mounted acrylic panels as the design. We decided to arrange the design in a checkerboard pattern, alternating between key dates and images. For added dimension, we applied both first- and second-surface vinyl to the panels.

Result

The final design consisted of 24 alternating panels. As an added bonus, we included a piece of vinyl hanging from the plotter with the dates the plotter was in use, and the amount of vinyl the plotter processed.
